How You Can Help!

logoThe 5th annual ARTLANTIS Arts and Music Festival is just around the corner! We started Artlantis for the same reason we started Beep Beep Gallery: to showcase and encourage the work of local emerging artists.

Artlantis is an all day summer festival that takes place on the lawn of Druid Hills Baptist Church. Unlike other Atlanta festivals, Artlantis is unique in that it exclusively showcases art and music from local talent. With ever-gaining momentum, Artlantis is well on it’s way to being a local tradition.

By creating this festival, we hope to not only expose visitors to a section of the Atlanta art scene that they wouldn’t usually encounter at most summer festivals, but alternatively to expose the artists to a larger audience they may not normally encounter in their day to day.

Each year, attendance and interest grows. And thanks to the support of the larger Atlanta community, Artlantis keeps coming back.

WHY ARTLANTIS NEEDS YOU

We will continuously be promoting the festival but need your help. Artlantis requires community to shape and support it. For Artlantis to truly thrive, it needs participants and supporters to take a moment to promote it, as well.

What 2012 Participants Had to Say About Artlantis:

1) What was great about Artlantis this year? Set up and break down went quickly this year. You were very helpful in set which made everything go smoothly.

2) What could be improved upon for next year? Not sure I have any idea there. I had a great time.

3) Did you sell enough to pay for your booth rental? Yes, plenty.

4) Do you feel like the event was well attended? I had all kinds of traffic. Really busy.

5) Would you consider doing Artlantis again in the future? I am in next year for sure.

6) Anything else you would like to add? (Suggestions? Comments?) Hope you got the pictures I sent. Next time I will try to take a break and get more. I really didn’t have much time for that during the show.

1) What was great about Artlantis this year? I like that it is a well organized and very affordable show focused on local art. The price tier is a great option. I also feel that the quality of art presented has way more hits than misses than most art festivals have.

2) What could be improved upon for next year? The only thing that I would have a complaint about was that the tents and tables were being set up as we were all showing up. Maybe if everything was ready to go before our load in time. That way we could start setting up our booths immediately. The tents were not staked properly and because of the wind that morning we had some issues. My tent actually flew up into the air and landed in the walking area.

3) Did you sell enough to pay for your booth rental? Yes. I sold way over my goal.

4) Do you feel like the event was well attended? Yes.

5) Would you consider doing Artlantis again in the future? Yes.

6) Anything else you would like to add? (Suggestions? Comments?) Just Thanks. What you guys are doing is great. The idea of making it affordable is great and it seems to be curated well. Please keep the quality of art high and try to keep out as much crap as you can. I feel that some shows get watered down and the quality drops and that in turn causes two things. It makes both good artists and attendees lose interest.

4) Do you feel like the event was well attended? -Yes, but our row did not see all of the traffic.

5) Would you consider doing Artlantis again in the future? -Yes

6) Anything else you would like to add? (Suggestions? Comments?) -Although I am happy with the success of this year’s event and upcoming opportunities that came my way from the event, I think for next year I would love the opportunity to move the location of my booth. Only a portion of the patrons ever came over to our row of tents and most were on the way to use the restroom in the church.

1) What was great about Artlantis this year? The bands were excellent this year. And it was great that it wasn’t 1000 degrees.

2) What could be improved upon for next year? I think more featuring of the included artists from a promotional perspective (facebook etc.) would be good… like maybe 1 artist per day for the 2 weeks leading up to the festival, etc. Also, landing on the same date as 2 other festivals was probably a detracting factor, but I realize that might be impossible to prevent. 🙂

3) Did you sell enough to pay for your booth rental? I spent $50 on the booth and made about $450

4) Do you feel like the event was well attended? Not too bad!

5) Would you consider doing Artlantis again in the future? Yes, I certainly will!

1) What was great about Artlantis this year? Everything! There was a lot of diverse booths and great music. I had an amazing time and met a lot of cool people.

2) What could be improved upon for next year? I can’t really think of anything. It was all fantastic. You can’t change the weather, but it could’ve been a little less windy.

3) Did you sell enough to pay for your booth rental? I broke even but made a lot of great contacts and got some Sam Flax coupons. So it was well worth it.

4) Do you feel like the event was well attended? Indeed! There was a wide variety of attendees and all of the booths were very interesting.

5) Would you consider doing Artlantis again in the future? I certainly would! I can’t wait til next year. I wish there were more festivals/events like this year round.

6) Anything else you would like to add? (Suggestions? Comments?) All of the Artlantis staff were extremely helpful and super friendly. A great crowd indeed! I may have missed out on some of the food, but I feel there could be more food vendors. Burgers, BBQ, things of that nature. The King of Pops was certainly a highlight. I know I must’ve eaten at least one of every flavor they had.

1) What was great about Artlantis this year? Talked to some other artists who came by my booth and got ideas and feedback on my art. It was fun!

2) What could be improved upon for next year? Suggest vendors set prices between $5 and $100. I will know next time and prepare items or prints that are low-priced.

3) Did you sell enough to pay for your booth rental? No, did not sell anything.

4) Do you feel like the event was well attended? Yes! We had exceptionally nice weather.

5) Would you consider doing Artlantis again in the future? Yes, if I found a different price point or different way to package my artwork: prints etc.

6) Anything else you would like to add? (Suggestions? Comments?) 10-7 is a REALLY LONG TIME. Would love to do a 2-7 timeframe next time. 2:30 seemed like the height of the people flow. Also, food vendors should stay open til the end. They closed up at 5, right before everybody got hungry for dinner.

1) What was great about Artlantis this year? smaller size of the festival made the art more visible and wasn’t too overwhelming for people; also loved meeting new artists

2) What could be improved upon for next year? The music in the beginning of the festival was a bit too harsh in my opinion for a Sat festival. The music was great as the day went on. Maybe focusing on music artists that are less metal?

The Rundown on Booths

There’s no one kind of booth at Artlantis, and if anything we want to encourage people to go about their participation in new and unconventional ways. For example, here are 3 different types of artists booths from previous years:

Ashley Anderson’s booth is the most typical in that artwork is displayed throughout the tent as you might see at any festival. He has a range of work (including prints, block carvings, and t-shirts) displayed on one of the walls Artlantis can provide.

Joe Tsambiras’s booth is less common in that the work is created instead of displayed. Here, Joe has a number of images that he can create using a press on site. A number of artists have booths where they’re doing face paint, caricature or portrait drawing, or pinhole camera development.

Plastic Aztecs’s booth is the least common in that it’s more of an experiential space. Here they created a comfortable den-like booth where they served tea and sold zines and cds they’d made just for the event. There have been photobooths, paint “shooting-ranges” and tarot reading booths in the past, and these types of booths have proven just as financially successful as more traditional ones because of the novelty they bring.

Booth Pricing:

$50 – Rental of a 10×10 space within the artists’ market. Please bring a tent and anything else you might need.

$75 – 10×10 space and a 10×10 tent which will be setup for you.

$100 – 10×10 space, tent, peg-hole wall, table & chairs which will all be setup for you.

Happy Spring, y’all! Year 5 is upon us and we’re excited to see what Atlanta’s busy artists have been up to all year. For additional information about the application, see below.

All interested artists, musicians and organizations, please thoroughly read and fill out this application. Each year, we have more applicants than space available. This means that Artlantis is a juried festival. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis starting in April.  There are no fees to apply to Artlantis.

  • Artists and craftspeople, it is required that you provide at least 3 image examples of your work. If you do not have an artist’s site, email your images to artlantisfestival@gmail.com. Anyone planning an interactive booth (we love those), there will be space on the application to disclose your plans. 
  • Musicians, please send a link to your music. We do not charge bands to play at Artlantis. If you wanted a booth in the artist’s market as well as a time slot to play onstage, you must apply separately for each. 
  • Organizations (galleries, collectives, bloggers, etc.), there will be space on the application to let us know how you intend to use your booth. Whether it be promotional, interactive, you’re selling art, etc., please provide us with some details on your plans.
